About Starlight

Starlight brightens the lives of seriously ill and hospitalised children, and their families, throughout Australia.  Starlight programs are delivered both in and out of hosspital, providing positive distraction to children in their time of need.

Starlight’s vision to help

Each year there are over 600,000 child admissions made to hospitals across Australia. Sadly, Starlight reaches only ‘1 in 3’ of these children. Starlight’s ultimate goal is to reach each and every child.

Why we chose to support the Starlight Foundation?

Perth Upmarket feels that its important to return something back to society.  The founder and owner of Perth Upmarket, Justine Barsley, saw the positive impact that the Starlight Programs were having on Children when her daughter was visiting hospital for allergy tests.

Wish information

Amelia is only 7 years old and suffers from cancer and a serious neurological illness.  As a result of this illness, Amelia suffers from low self confidence and anxiety.

Amelia is one of Starlight’s special children who recently had her Starlight wish granted. During her treatment Amelia’s mother Kara, found that her love of art helped her cope with the frustration and demands of her illness.  Amelia discovered a passion for painting and a strong interest in art.  So it was no surprise when Amelia’s wish was to have her painting hung in a professional gallery.

Amelia was given the once in a lifetime opportunity to work with esteemed artist Janet Laurence in her studio for 6 months.  During this time she completed her first art collection, displaying her natural talent.  Amelia’s dream came true when she attended the opening of her very own exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW with 70 friends and family.  The highlight of the day was when the artist herself signed the posters of her exhibition as a personal memento for her fans.

Amelia’s mother Kara explained how it felt, “This has been the most wonderful experience for the whole family.  To see the way in which Amelia’s self confidence has grown is a gift we can never forget”.

This amazing wish gave Amelia a dream to hold on to and offered her a positive distraction from the day to day stresses of being so ill.

Amelia is still painting and developing her talent with the hope that some day her work will be exhibited in New York!

Perth Upmarket is a Starlight supporter and is currently raising money to make another boy or girl’s dream come true.  So far Perth Upmarket has raised $4152.50 for Starlight but with each wish costing around $6,000 there is still a way to go.  If you would like to help, please support Starlight by visiting the Starlight stall and purchasing some merchandise.
