Happy Lazuly: Colours and Creativity

Discover Happy Lazuly, a beacon of art, creativity, and colour. This small business owned and operated by Sabine, and nestled in the heart of Freo, embodies local artistic flair and unwavering passion. Through a colourful journey, Happy Lazuly's founder shares her story, inspirations, and dreams that make her business shine like a precious gem.

The Artistic Awakening

Happy Lazuly's creator has always been crafty and creative. A self-taught watercolour artist, she is also deeply enamoured with pottery and woodworking. Her philosophy is simple: art resides within everyone, sometimes dormant, but ready to burst forth when the time is right. It all started with a nudge from family and friends who recognised her talent and encouraged her to share her artwork with the world.

One fateful day, after a community post on Facebook, a lady from Gerringong, NSW reached out, offering the opportunity to sell her artworks in a collective shop. This serendipitous encounter marked the beginning of a colourful journey for Happy Lazuly.

The Artistic Process

Happy Lazuly is a haven for vibrant, playful, and educational art, that celebrates Australia's unique culture, fauna, and flora, with a special focus on Western Australia. All the magic happens in the cosy confines of her home studio in Fremantle.

Each piece of art is lovingly crafted on cotton paper, using the finest watercolour pigments, resulting in bright and long-lasting colours that come alive on the canvas. For reproductions, the artist utilises a professional printer, ensuring that the essence of her work is faithfully preserved on high-quality or recycled paper.

A Full-Time Artistic Journey

Happy Lazuly is not just a passion project; it's a full-time artistic journey, supported by the unwavering encouragement and support of Sabine’s loving husband.

Challenges and Triumphs

Like any small business, Happy Lazuly has faced its fair share of challenges. Moving interstate during a global pandemic was no small feat. Every day presents new challenges and decisions, and for someone originally from France, navigating the intricacies of a different language adds an extra layer of complexity. Yet, it's these challenges that shape the journey and make each milestone sweeter.

Aspirations for the Future

Looking ahead, Happy Lazuly aims to build new connections, foster collaborations, and continue to develop artistic skills while honing entrepreneurial acumen. The ultimate goal is to achieve success to sustain a livelihood through this creative venture.

A Perth Upmarket Regular

The Christmas Upmarket in 2021 marked a pivotal moment for Happy Lazuly. Being selected to be part of the "first at upmarket" was not only a great opportunity but also a warm welcome from the market community. It served as a powerful source of motivation and confidence to keep pursuing the colourful dreams of Happy Lazuly.

Beyond the Canvas

Away from the studio and market stalls, Sabine’s artist's heart beats in rhythm with nature. Hiking, including the French part of the Camino and half of the Bibbulmun track, allows her to connect with the world around her. Creativity, like the tides, ebbs and flows, sometimes frenetic and other times quietly recharging. Diving has also been a lifelong passion for Sabine, immersing herself in the peaceful and vibrant underwater world. The dream of living by the sea, inspired by her Caribbean roots, has finally come true.

Happy Lazuly isn't just a business; it's a journey of self-discovery, artistry, and a deep connection to the world around us. It's a reminder that creativity knows no bounds, and when nurtured, it can lead to a life as vibrant and diverse as the artworks it creates.
